Image Sharing & Usage Guidelines
(or as I like to think of it, how we keep things beautiful and respectful for everyone!)
It was such a joy working with you, whether I was capturing a wedding at your gorgeous venue, you were behind the dreamy florals, baked that show-stopping cake, or dressed the bride in the gown everyone gasped over. Maybe we joined forces on an editorial that still makes us swoon a little. However our paths crossed, I’m so glad they did. And if you’re here because you’d love to share some of my images — wonderful. Here’s everything you need to know to make it all easy and seamless.
Image Sharing Policy
I absolutely love sharing my images with the wonderful people I get to work alongside, as long as the couple is happy for me to do so. Below are a few friendly guidelines to help keep everything looking its best and protect everyone involved.
- Editing: Please don’t edit my photos in any way. That includes Photoshop tweaks, filters, airbrushing, or selective colouring. Each image is carefully edited by hand in my signature soft, light, and painterly style, and altering them would infringe copyright. The only exception is cropping to a square for Instagram, that’s absolutely fine!
- Availability: Wedding images are always delivered to the couple first. On average, galleries are ready in about 6–8 weeks, though during peak wedding season (May to October) it might take a little longer. For editorials that are being submitted for publication, full galleries are released once a publication date and exclusivity period have been agreed, this can take 2–6 months. In the meantime, I’ll happily provide a small selection of preview images for you to use.
- Privacy: If a couple requests privacy or has an NDA in place, I won’t be able to share their images with suppliers — I always respect their wishes. If you’re unsure or need clarity, I’m happy to speak directly with the couple to make sure everyone’s preferences are fully honoured.
Copyright Information
I hold the copyright to all my images, and couples do not receive commercial usage rights. That means that even if the couple has said you may use an image, you’ll still need my permission first. Please also do not add your own watermark or copyright information to my photos.
“But I Have Usage Rights in My Contract…”
I totally understand. This one comes up often, so here’s the simple truth: even if your contract mentions using wedding photos, the copyright always belongs to the photographer. Couples (or any other supplier) can’t legally grant permission to use my images; only I can.
It’s a bit like me slipping something into my contract that says the florist has to make me a bouquet, the cake maker owes me a box of brownies, or the venue needs to throw in a free night’s stay. Sounds nice, but it’s not exactly fair — and definitely not legally binding!
This isn’t about limiting collaboration; it’s about protecting everyone’s work and ensuring images are used beautifully and respectfully. I’m always happy to share photos once the couple has approved and usage has been agreed directly with me.
“But I Bought the Photos When I Bought the Business…”
I completely understand where that assumption comes from. However, when a business changes ownership, the right to use any images does not automatically transfer to the new owner. The previous owner doesn’t legally own the photographs, as the copyright holder, I do. Which means they cannot include my images as part of any sale or agreement.
You’re more than welcome to use the images once usage has been agreed directly with me. I’m always happy to help ensure everything is handled smoothly, properly, and professionally.
Usage Guidelines
- Online/Social Media/Website: Online usage (including websites, and social media) is free, provided you include a clickable link crediting my website or social media profile on each page or post where the image is used. For example, link to my Facebook page for Facebook posts, my Instagram profile for Instagram posts, etc. Please be aware I use a variation of my business name on my social media, so using my Instagram handle on a Facebook post won’t create a clickable link and vice versa. With regards to tagging images, I’m more than happy if you would like to tag images, but please be aware that tagging is not a substitute for the appropriate crediting.
- High-Resolution Images: Images are provided as low resolution for online sharing. If you require a high-resolution image for online use, please let me know which image you would like and the size requirements, and I can provide this.
- Advertising/Print/Other/No Credit: If you wish to use an image without the appropriate credit, in a magazine or for advertising, the cost is £25 per image.
For any enquiries or to request the paid option, please contact me here or fill out our contact form. I’m always happy to help or answer any questions.
