As a wedding photographer, I often find myself reflecting on the beauty of capturing a day so filled with love, emotion, and fleeting moments. But here’s the thing about weddings—some things are simply out of my control. And while I’m here to make sure your photos are as stunning as the day itself, we need to talk about the things I can’t control as your wedding photographer, and why we just have to roll with them, together.
The Aesthetics of the Day
I get it—everyone wants their wedding photos to be jaw-droppingly gorgeous. But here’s the deal: I can’t turn a cosy barn wedding in the Cotswolds into a Chateaux wedding in Versailles. Your venue, your season, your vibe—they’re all part of the story, and they should be celebrated! A winter wedding won’t suddenly morph into a breezy summer soirée in post-production, but there’s a magic in each season, and in every setting. My job is to capture that magic as it is, not what we wish it could be

The weather
Ah, the weather—a bride’s ultimate plot twist! One minute, you’re picturing golden sunshine and a gentle breeze; the next, you’re checking the radar like a storm chaser. But here’s the thing—some of the most cinematic, goosebump-worthy moments happen when Mother Nature decides to shake things up. A misty morning? That’s romance straight out of a fairytale. Stormy skies? The kind of moody, dramatic backdrop you didn’t even know you needed. A little rain? Perfect for a windswept, once-in-a-lifetime portrait or a cosy kiss under an umbrella. The truth is, I can’t control the weather (if I could, I’d be charging way more), but I can capture the magic that comes with it. Some of the best, most breathtaking shots happen in the unexpected. So forget chasing perfect weather—embrace whatever comes, because life’s best moments are unscripted, and your wedding day is no exception.

Guest Behaviour
Ah, guests—the wild cards of every wedding! They’re the heartbeat of your celebration. Your guests’ energy will make or break the vibe of the photos. If they’re laughing, dancing, soaking up the love, and having the time of their lives it will radiate through your photos. But if a few are disengaged or checking their phones, well, I can’t Photoshop in enthusiasm. Creating a lively atmosphere with fun touches like lawn games or a killer DJ? Now that’s the kind of energy that translates beautifully on camera.

The Timeline
Timing is everything. While there are plenty of things I can work a little magic on—like whipping out my trusty needle and thread to sew a button back on your dress—time is not one of them. I can’t push back the tide, hit pause on golden hour, or make the sun stay up just a little longer for that dreamy, glowing sunset kiss. There are things I cannot control as your wedding photographer, and time is one of them. If those golden, cinematic moments are on your wish list, we’ll need to plan accordingly. I’ll guide you through the best timing to make it happen, but Mother Nature? She’s the one running the clock.

The Eventfulness of the Day
Ever notice how the most dynamic photos are the ones where something’s happening? Whether as simple as lawn games, or a magician, wine tasting, a sparkler send-off or singing waiters. The more interactive your day, the more your photos will reflect that buzz. Quiet ceremonies and low-key receptions have their own charm, but if you’re after those “Wow, that looked like the party of the year!” shots, you’ll need to keep your guests entertained and give them something to do. As your wedding photographer I’ll capture what I see.

How You Look
I know, I know—“Can you just Photoshop my arms?” is a phrase I hear more than you’d think. But here’s the truth: you’re already perfect. Your partner thinks so, your family thinks so, and trust me, in 20 years, when you look back at these photos, you’ll think so too. It’s not about capturing perfection, it’s about capturing you—the joy, the laughter, the happy tears. Let’s trade “perfection” for authenticity because that’s what love really looks like.

Your wedding day will be perfect in all the ways that truly matter—the real, messy, emotional ways. While I can’t control every little detail, I can promise to capture the heart of it all: the laughter, the love, the quiet moments in between. If you’re ready to embrace what makes your day uniquely yours, let’s create something beautiful together.
Because at the end of the day, the things I can’t control as your wedding photographer are often what make the best stories. The imperfections are what make it perfect.
